The Seine-Scheldt Network at the Connecting Europe Days 2026, at the heart of European discussions on mobility and infrastructure

On the occasion of Connecting Europe Days 2026, taking place in Brussels from 29 September to 1 October 2026, the Seine-Scheldt Network will be present alongside Europe’s leading transport, infrastructure and mobility stakeholders.

Organised by the European Commission, this event is a key milestone in European transport policy, bringing together public decision-makers, European institutions, infrastructure managers, economic stakeholders and partners from the major European transport networks in Brussels.

The Seine-Scheldt EEIG team will be present at Stand No. 103 in Hall 100 and will be delighted to welcome partners, inland waterway sector stakeholders and representatives of the regions concerned to discuss the progress of the Seine-Scheldt Network, its achievements and the next stages of its development.

A EUROPEAN NETWORK AT THE HEART OF THE DISCUSSIONS

This edition of Connecting Europe Days 2026 is particularly significant for Seine-Scheldt as the network continues its transformation and integration at European level, contributing to more sustainable, resilient and better-connected mobility.

On Tuesday 29 September, the meeting of the Seine-Scheldt Intergovernmental Commission (IGC) will be one of the highlights of the week. It will be attended by Paweł Wojciechowski, European Coordinator for the North Sea-Rhine-Mediterranean (NSRM) Corridor, and the Chief Executive Officers of the members of the Seine-Scheldt EEIG. The meeting will bring together the network’s institutional stakeholders to discuss the strategic challenges associated with its implementation and future development.

On Thursday 1 October at 11:00 a.m., the North Sea-Rhine- Mediterranean (NSRM) Corridor Forum will provide an opportunity to place Seine-Scheldt within a broader European context and discuss the corridor’s priorities, their implementation and the cooperation required to strengthen connections between the various regions.

These different meetings illustrate the growing importance of inland waterway transport and multimodal connections within European strategies for mobility, competitiveness and environmental transition.

SEINE-SCHELDT: A EUROPEAN AMBITION

The Seine-Scheldt Network is the leading inland waterway exchange area of the North Sea-Rhine-Mediterranean Corridor, one of the nine multimodal corridors that will contribute to the development of a core trans-European multimodal transport network.

  • To create, at the heart of Europe, a new multimodal, cross-border, coherent, interconnected, comprehensive, accessible, modern, safe, clean and highperformance transport offering that will accelerate modal shift towards inland waterways.
  • To contribute to the sustainable development of the European Union by supporting the major transformations taking place across Member States: future mobility, economic growth and ecological transition.

 

Strong Support from the European Union

As a priority project within European transport policy, the Seine-Scheldt Network has benefited from substantial European Union funding since 2004, receiving support amounting to:

  • €176 million between 2007 and 2014 (TEN-T);
  • €539 million between 2014 and 2023 (CEF 1);
  • €276 million for the period 2021-2026 (CEF 2.1);
  • €506 million for the period 2023-2027 (CEF 2.2);
  • €300 million for the period 2024-2027 (CEF 2.3).

These investments contribute to the modernisation of infrastructure and the strengthening of multimodal connections between France, Wallonia and Flanders.
