As part of the latest CEF 2 call for proposals launched by the European Commission, the partners of the Seine-Scheldt Network submitted a new funding application on 6 October 2026 to support works on inland waterway infrastructure in France (the Seine Basin and Nord-Pas-de-Calais) and Belgium (Flanders and Wallonia).
Should the application be selected by the European evaluators, the Seine-Scheldt Network could benefit from a sixth round of European funding in 2027, with a potential maximum contribution of €55 million.
A priority project within European transport policy, the Seine-Scheldt Network has received substantial financial support from the European Union since 2007. To date, it has been awarded €1.8 billion in grants through the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) programme and the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF).
The Seine-Scheldt Network has thus benefited from five successive funding allocations:
- €176 million between 2007 and 2014 (TEN-T);
- €539 million between 2014 and 2023 (CEF 1);
- €276 million for the 2021-2026 period (CEF 2.1);
- €506 million for the 2023-2027 period (CEF 2.2);
- €300 million for the 2024-2027 period (CEF 2.3).
These investments contribute to the modernisation of infrastructure and the strengthening of multimodal connections between France, Wallonia and Flanders.
