The Seine-Scheldt Network was in Brussels from 29 September to 01 October for Connecting Europe Days 2026, where its stand welcomed a large number of visitors, partners and European inland waterway stakeholders.
Throughout the event, the Seine-Scheldt Network presented the progress made across the network by its four operators – Voies navigables de France (VNF), Société du Canal Seine-Nord Europe (SCSNE), De Vlaamse Waterweg and Service public de Wallonie – and engaged with European partners on the challenges and opportunities surrounding the connectivity and resilience of inland waterways.
Strengthening European cooperation around inland waterways
As a major European transport event, this year’s Connecting Europe Days provided an opportunity for the Seine-Scheldt Network and its partners to take part in several working sessions addressing the future of European transport infrastructure.
Among the highlights was the quarterly meeting of the Seine-Scheldt Intergovernmental Commission (IGC), held on Tuesday 29 September. This meeting brought together the institutional stakeholders involved in the development of the network and provided an opportunity to discuss shared priorities and ongoing cooperation.
On Thursday 1 October, the North Sea–Rhine–Mediterranean (NSRM) Corridor Forum brought together the four Seine-Scheldt operators and their respective teams, alongside Prof. Paweł Wojciechowski, European Coordinator for the North Sea–Rhine–Mediterranean Corridor.
The discussions focused in particular on climate resilience and military mobility along the corridor, as well as the future development of European transport infrastructure and its links with the European port strategy currently under preparation.
A shared ambition for a more connected and resilient network
These different meetings and exchanges reflect the same ambition: to strengthen the cross-border and European cooperation at the heart of the Seine-Scheldt Network.
By bringing together infrastructure managers, public authorities and European partners, the Network is contributing to the development of an inland waterway system that is increasingly connected, resilient and competitive, and that can play a full role in the future of European transport.
