A new milestone with the start of the Oisy-le-Verger construction project

On June 9th, the first sod for the Oisy-le-Verger lock marked a significant milestone in the progress of the Seine-Nord Europe Canal. This symbolic event officially launched the first major works in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region.

To this occasion, Xavier Bertrand, President of the Supervisory Board of the Seine-Nord Europe Canal and the President of the Hauts-de-France Region, reiterated the collective ambition carried by this project of European significance. Around him were gathered Jérôme Dezobry, Chairman of the Executive Board of the Société du Canal Seine-Nord Europe, Séverine Riche and Vincent Hulot, members of the Executive Board, as well as all the French, Flemish, Walloon and European institutional  partners involved in this project. This show of support demonstrates the collective momentum around the Seine-Nord Europe Canal and the Seine-Scheldt Network.

Beyond its symbolic significance, the construction site of the Oisy-le-Verger lock also represents a key driver of employment and regional economic development. Up to 700 people will be involved at the peak of the project, with more than 200,000 hours of work-integration placements planned throughout the project.

The day continued with the welcoming of 150 inhabitants from Oisy-le-Verger and Aubencheul-au-Bac that came to discover the construction site, discuss with the teams and gain a better understanding of the next stages of the project.

Thank you to all the teams, partners and companies for their commitment to this new phase of the Seine-Nord Europe Canal and the Seine-Scheldt Network.
