The new cycle and pedestrian bridge over the river Lys in Menin (Flanders) is taking shape. On Saturday 21 September 2024, the span of the S-shaped metal bridge was transported by boat and put in place under the watchful eye of the public.
The new bridge between the Vauban stadium in the town centre and the town’s newly-created Barraken park is 262 metres long, with a variable width of up to 5 metres. The span measures 62 metres. The bridge will be ready for use from spring 2025.
The construction of this new bridge by De Vlaamse Waterweg nv, with the support of the European Union, is part of the work to cross the Lys at Menin, a major element in the development of the Seine-Scheldt wide-gauge inland waterways network.
