THE EEIG

Webinar on the Prospects for Developing Infrastructure Compatible with Alternative Fuels

On Thursday, 16 October, the Seine-Escaut EEIG organised a webinar to present the initial phases of a study aimed at defining a framework for the development of infrastructure compatible with alternative fuels across the Seine-Escaut Network.

Launched by the EEIG in 2024, this study responds to the requirements set out in the European Implementing Decision on the Seine-Escaut project, which calls for “the development of a coordinated strategic framework between the different parties in order to promote the full deployment of alternative fuel infrastructure across the entire Seine-Escaut network.”

The study is being conducted by two specialised consultancies — Mobilit&strategie and Seiya Consulting — under the supervision of the EEIG’s Alternative Fuels Working Group experts. It is co-financed by the members of the Seine-Escaut EEIG (DVW, SPW, SCSNE, VNF) and by the European Commission.

Following an introduction by Olivier Matrat, Deputy Director for the Nord–Pas-de-Calais region at VNF and representative of the EEIG manager Gilles Ryckebusch, who recalled the key challenges of the study, the working group experts presented their approach, previous studies carried out on the subject, the regulatory framework, and the financial instruments available for the deployment of alternative fuels.

After providing an overview of the current research, as well as a technical, economic and environmental comparison of existing solutions and a mapping of compatible infrastructures within the Seine-Escaut Network, the experts outlined the next steps: the development of a strategic framework defining the measures and solutions to be implemented (administrative, financial, regulatory and technical aspects), followed by the creation of an action roadmap including qualitative, quantitative, spatial and temporal objectives.

A warm thank you to all the participants in this webinar for their valuable contributions to the discussion!
