The Seine-Escaut EEIG visits Menin (Flanders)

The Seine-Escaut EEIG visited Menin on Friday 16 May 2025.

The members of the Seine-Scheldt EEIG visited the Lys and the Roeselare-Lys canal at the invitation of De Vlaamse Waterweg nv. This visit was part of their monthly meeting, facilitated by the city of Menen.

During the visit, stops were made at several current and future construction sites:

➡️ On the Lys, the Menen cycle and pedestrian bridge, a new bridge between the Vauban stadium in the city centre and the Barraken park newly created by the city, 262 metres long with a variable width of up to 5 metres. As well as the Kuurne bridge between Kuurne and Harelbeke, which has just been raised by half a metre to allow barges carrying three layers of containers to pass in future.

➡️ On the Roeselare-Leie Canal, the structures visited were the Ooigem lock complex, the new bridge built over the Leie in Ingelmunster and certain quay wall projects and the “Kop van de Vaart”, a tourist attraction in an industrial area bordering the waterway in Roeselare.
