New Lysbrug over the Roeselare-Leie canal progressing on schedule

Construction of the new Lysbrug over the Roeselare-Leie canal in Flanders is progressing well. Work is ongoing both on the construction site in Ingelmunster and in the steel manufacturer’s workshop in Hamont-Achel.

The 63-metre bridge span will be installed in June 2026. By then, the access ramps on both banks are also expected to be completed.

By autumn 2026, cyclists and pedestrians will be able to use the new bridge, improving quality of life along the canal.

The bridge replaces an older structure that was too low for current and future navigation on this busy canal. Around 4 million tonnes of goods are transported there each year.

Project partners include De Vlaamse Waterweg, CSM Steelconstructions and Herbosch-Kiere. The project is part of the Seine-Scheldt programme and is co-financed by the European Commission.
