Launch of the dredging phase on the Lys Mitoyenne

On 2 June 2025, we began a new key stage in the recalibration of the Lys Mitoyenne: the dredging of sediment and loose soil from the canal, a project that will take seven months to complete.

This major project is part of the development of the Seine-Scheldt Network.

The aim is to deepen and widen the river to allow larger barges to pass through, thereby strengthening river transport within the region and between the sea and river ports of the Hauts-de-France region and the Seine and Scheldt basins.

This fourth dredging campaign, carried out by Ghent Dredging, includes:

✔ dredging sediment in several areas,

✔ transporting it to sites in Wambrechies and Belgium,

✔ recycling the extracted materials.

A VNF – Voies navigables de France project carried out in France and Belgium, in partnership with the Wallonia Public Service and De Vlaamse Waterweg nv, for a total amount of nearly €5 million, financed by the European Union, the French State via the French Transport Infrastructure Financing Agency, and the Hauts-de-France region.
