A historic structure modernised to support the Seine–Scheldt Corridor and sustainable logistics

Following five years of works, the Poses-Amfreville weir, located on the River Seine upstream of Rouen, was officially inaugurated on 2 June 2026.

A strategic asset on the Seine corridor, the structure maintains water levels along a 40-kilometre stretch of the Seine, enabling the passage of nearly 12,000 vessels and more than 6 million tonnes of freight each year between Paris, the inland ports of the Paris region, and the major seaports of Rouen and Le Havre.

Its refurbishment, co-financed by the European Union, the French State, Voies navigables de France and the Normandy Region, helps strengthen the reliability and performance of the French inland waterway network. The project fully supports the objectives of the Seine–Scheldt link and the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), which aim to develop a more sustainable, resilient and better-connected transport system across Europe.

Beyond its role in navigation, the Poses-Amfreville weir also contributes to water resource management, the preservation of ecosystems and the economic development of the regions along the Seine.

Modernising existing infrastructure is a key lever for supporting the growth of inland waterway transport and accelerating modal shift towards more environmentally friendly transport solutions.

👏 Congratulations to all the partners and teams involved in the successful delivery of this major project.
